NC State Jenkins MBA rises in second major ranking this year

By Christine Ferrell

The 2014 Bloomberg Businessweek Best Business Schools full-time MBA rankings released today boosted the NC State Jenkins MBA program to No. 54 among full-time MBA programs in the United States. NC State first participated in the biennial l ranking in 2012 when Businessweek ranked the program No. 63.

This is the second major ranking this year in which the Jenkins MBA full-time program posted significant gains. In March, NC State saw the second-largest jump of any school in the US News & World Report Best Graduate Schools ranking: 23 places to No. 65.

Other recent rankings include US News  ranking NC State’s Online MBA program No. 36 in its January 2014 Best Graduate Online Business Programs ranking – an increase from No. 42 in 2013, and in October 2013 Bloomberg BusinessWeek rankings the face-to-face Professional MBA program among the top 20 in the country.

“I am incredibly proud of the growth of performance of our Jenkins MBA programs. We believe the future of global business – and particularly for those industries we serve in North Carolina – relies on professionals who can roll up their sleeves and hit the ground running. Our hands-on, practical approach to MBA education coupled with our focus on innovation and technology pays dividends for our graduates, our program, and perhaps most notably the companies we serve,” said Ira Weiss, dean and Stephen P. Zelnak Jr. Chair, Poole College of Management.

This year, Bloomberg Businessweek reviewed its ranking methodology and made minor changes. The final ranking was comprised of a survey of student satisfaction (45 percent of the ranking); a survey of employers who hire those graduates (45 percent); and the expertise of each school’s faculty, measured by faculty research in esteemed journals (10 percent). More on the methodology can be found on the Bloomberg Businessweek website.

NC State’s Jenkins MBA fared particularly well in the student satisfaction ranking at No. 45 among the 85 programs ranked, the greatest number of programs ranked in the full-time MBA ranking since its 1988 inception.

“I have long stated we are one of the best kept secrets in graduate management education with our focus on innovation, experiential approach, flexible options and great value. With our rankings performance this past year, the secret is out.” said Steve Allen, associate dean of Jenkins Graduate Programs and Research, Poole College of Management.

NC State is currently accepting applications for the MBA programs starting in fall 2015. For more information, visit http://www.mba.ncsu.edu.  The NC State Jenkins MBA is available in three formats: full-time, professional and professional online.
