Meet a Jenkins MBA:  The Weekly Spotlight

Cox, Amanda headshot

Name:  Amanda Cox, First Year Full-Time MBA Student
Employer: Graduate Assistant, Poole College of Management
Hometown:  Kerrville, Texas
Previous: Bachelor of Arts, Journalism-News Writing, Texas State University

Q:  What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had?
A:  In my first year of college, I worked at a survey research center and had to call people and conduct 30-45 minute surveys on a variety of topics. It was really difficult to get anyone to agree to take the survey, and it was really awkward because the surveys took so long to get through. I definitely wouldn’t wish that job on anyone.

Q:  If you could meet a famous person (living or dead) for coffee or a beer, who would you want to meet? What would you want to ask them about?
A:  I’d be super interested to meet with Richard Branson. He has been incredibly successful as an entrepreneur and has managed to build a net worth of about $4.9 billion while still giving back to worthy causes. I’d love to ask him about his biggest failures and how he has overcome them.

Q:  What’s your dream job / career goal? How is the MBA helping you get there?
A:  I’m still unsure of EXACTLY what I want to do, but I’ve always dreamed of working for Nike as a marketer. I think they do an incredible job of making sure that they are ingrained in the consumer’s minds. The MBA is going to give me the hands-on experience necessary to be successful outside of the program.

Q:  If you could have any superpower you wanted, which one would it be?
A:  I’m a huge animal lover, and so I think I would love to be able to communicate with animals. I’m sure my Pomeranian would have some interesting things to tell me.

Q:  What’s the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
A:  I had a journalism professor at Texas State University who used to be the speech writer for Ted Kennedy, and he always told me that the most important thing in life is to be thoughtful.
