Why an MBA?

Early in her career, Green began looking for opportunities to stay competitive in her field and expand her business acumen. “Due to the evolving and increasingly popular landscape of human resources, I quickly recognized the importance of enhancing my qualifications and broadening my business knowledge beyond HR. I decided that pursuing an MBA would not only distinguish me from my peers but also significantly enhance advancement opportunities in my professional journey,” she says.

Why Jenkins?

Wanting to keep roots down in the Raleigh area, Green found that NC State was the right fit for her goals. “It’s a highly regarded university renowned for its exceptional MBA program – and I valued the prospect of immersing myself in a learning environment reflective of the corporate environment I was likely to encounter,” she says.

What made it great

Given her responsibilities as a parent and full-time employee, Green enjoyed the flexibility of the Jenkins MBA program and the opportunity to further her education while maintaining her other commitments. “I greatly appreciated that the program was working professional and parent-friendly – especially as a single parent. “It enabled me to balance my full-time employment while never compromising on crucial moments with my daughter, who was just one when I started the program,” she says. “The experience not only enriched my personal growth, but also equipped me with valuable insights that I pass on to my now 18-year-old daughter, who is currently considering attending NC State in fall 2024.”

Green also appreciated the Jenkins MBA program’s emphasis on collaboration and teamwork, which taught her key lessons about the value of diversity and inclusivity. “The top lesson I learned in the program – that continues to be a cornerstone of my leadership philosophy – is the importance of embracing diverse perspectives and being receptive to ideas that diverge from my own. This ultimately highlighted the profound positive impact inclusivity can have on outcomes,” she says.

Career impact

Green credits the Jenkins MBA program with shaping the trajectory of her career and helping her achieve several professional goals – including securing a vice president role within her field. Then, after a layoff in 2023, she seized the opportunity to self-reflect and set new goals. “I recognized the need to dig deep while contemplating my next chapter. During that pivotal juncture, I chose to forgo another VP opportunity and instead venture into the realm of entrepreneurship,” she says. “Leveraging the wealth of knowledge amassed over my 18-year career, I founded Ebveon, which specializes in human resources consulting.”

Looking back, Green recognizes that founding Ebveon was one of the most daunting career decisions she’s ever made, but also one of the most empowering. Helping companies across different industries strategize and monetize their people function – while upholding their core values and respect for individuals – Green is grateful for the opportunity to strengthen organizations, serve people and make a positive impact on the world. “I am excited for the future I am shaping, particularly in this new age of AI, and I embark on this incredible chapter with optimism, zeal and an unwavering commitment to driving positive change.”

Final thoughts

Reflecting on her experience researching different MBA programs, Green offers a few words of advice to prospective students. “Be clear about your goals (aspirations) and your whys (underlying motivations). Both are critical, because the pursuit of one without consideration of the other can significantly undermine your overall success,” she says. To discern whether an MBA is the best next step – and which program is the right fit – Green recommends using those goals and motivations to draft a list of questions such as the ones below:

  1. Are you most interested in maximizing earning potential, being promoted, building your own company/brand, changing your community or the world, or something else?
  2. How could you benefit from being part of a network that appreciates transformative ideas and prioritizes readiness for the future over complacency?
  3. How important is the reputation of the program and university?
  4. How well would your participation in the program fit into your life, schedule and personal commitments?

After drafting these questions, Green encourages prospective students to do their due diligence to find answers. “Attend information sessions and ensure you are getting answers to your questions, and where there’s opportunity, meet with current students and get their feedback,” she says. “Gather the details you need and make the best decision for you, your goals and your whys.”
