Professional Curriculum

With convenient evening courses delivered on our main Raleigh campus or in nearby RTP, choose the route that best meets your needs, with the ability to flex time to degree completion and location and even take online courses.

Courses designed to fit your life

Building upon the expertise of our noted faculty and extensive partnerships with industry, we deliver a rigorous and highly experiential academic program that is in step with the issues and challenges faced by technology-drive businesses today.

The Jenkins MBA announced significant academic updates for students entering the program for the fall 2016 or thereafter. You can review the updates here.

Students take an integrated core curriculum, with a focus on technology, business processes, and practical applications in a collaborative learning environment. All Professional Evening MBA students are required to complete a practicum course, giving you valuable on-the-ground experience working on a real company project.

But, there is no one-size-fits-all degree here.

Want your MBA to elevate your marketing management skills? Interested in pairing your current background in technology with business?

Professional MBA students do not declare a concentration but do complete an Area of Emphasis requirement, comprised of 6 credit hours of study in a particular business area. These mirror our concentration areas for Full-time MBA students. You may also choose to earn a certificate in a particular field of study.

Students have ample opportunity to customize their MBA through 9 hours of elective courses– above and beyond the depth, practicum and analytical requirements — in the 40-credit hour program.

For every hour spent in the classroom, students typically spend two to three hours outside of class studying and working in teams.

Evening courses are offered on weekdays from either 6:00 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., depending on the particular course, and meet once a week. Generally students opt to enroll in courses two nights a week and may choose to take one-credit hour short courses, which are typically offered over the course of two Saturdays during the academic term.

During the application process, you’ll choose between our two locations.

Each location (Main Campus and RTP) offers all core courses, but elective courses are not always offered at both locations. You can find course sequence details here.

Accelerated Path

The accelerated path (21 months to graduation) was developed specifically for Professional MBA students who value time to degree completion above all other factors.

Students on the accelerated path are not typically able to complete an area of emphasis, and it is likely that you will have to take some courses outside of your home campus (RTP, Main Campus or online) in order to complete graduation requirements in 21 months.

Professional Evening MBA students on the accelerated track are also encouraged to complete an optional International Immersion. The International Immersion is a 7-8 day study abroad trip during either the spring or the summer semester (usually mid-March or mid-May).  The location options vary each year, but the focus of the trip is to provide global business and cultural awareness skills.

Raleigh Residencies

Professional Evening MBA students will complete a mandatory Virtual Orientation and complete online modules prior to the start of classes.

Students are required to complete two residencies. Each is a credit-bearing 3-day course (Thursday-Saturday) held in Raleigh, NC.  The first residency must be completed in your first semester of the program, and the second residency prior to graduation.

Residencies are designed to enhance networking and enable hands-on leadership development. Active duty military may waive these residency requirements and replace with other elective courses.
