Why did you chose the Jenkins MBA for your education?

I chose the Jenkins MBA for 3 reasons

  • The flexibility that the part-time portion of the program allowed. While having a full-time job I was able to achieve my MBA through evening classes.
  • The Poole Program was also one of the only programs offering a TEC concentration. (Technology, Entrepreneurship, & Commercialization)
  • Because I was an undergrad alumni I understood the value of the education I would be receiving while not being saddled with graduate degree debt for years to come.

How did your experience in your the Jenkins MBA program at NC State contribute to your professional achievements and successes?

I don’t believe I’d be in the position I’m in today without my MBA. Having my MBA and the skills I developed through the MBA program allowed me to be considered for my promotion to Sales Manager.

What did you enjoy most about your time in the Jenkins MBA program?

I enjoyed getting to know other working professionals who had the same desires to advance their career as I did. I was able to establish a very valuable network of people in all sorts of industry and different market segments. Having a broad network is very valuable for anyone’s career trajectory. Not only can I pull resources for various business opportunities, but also help others in their pursuits. Through the rigors of the program you become close with your classmates and develop friendships that last a lifetime.

What do you miss most now that you have graduated?

I miss the team environment. We were grouped into teams to tackle projects and would spend hours with one another trying to complete a common task, find an answer, and most importantly, produce an idea that has never been explored. That teamwork and camaraderie is what I miss the most.

What advice do you have for prospective MBA students?

Prepare yourself for a fun and valuable ride. Even though it’s a cliché it applies…You get out of it what you put into it! I was recently married and had my first child on the way when I began the program and it provided opportunities to learn time management skills that help me to this day. Use your time wisely and enjoy the experience.
