Why did you choose the NC State Jenkins MBA program for your graduate education?

Technology focused program

How did your experience in the program contribute to your professional achievements and successes?

Working in groups with people from other professional backgrounds and from other parts of the university allows you to open up to more perspectives and listen to others’ points of view.

What did you enjoy most about your time in the Jenkins MBA program?

Working in cross-functional groups

What are a few of the most impactful classes/lessons you learned during your time at NC State?

I took the pilot classes for what would become the Biosciences Management concentration and that made me want to be a part of the biotech world and NC’s biotech community. It took me a few years and lots of perseverance to get there but it was worth it in the end. The management skills I learned in the MBA program have allowed me to manage a company I co-founded.

What are your lasting impressions of the Jenkins MBA program?

My cohort of 2004 was the second group to graduate the newly renamed MBA program (it was the MSM program when I was accepted) so it was still a bit new. The professors and the MBA program staff were great. My classmates were very dedicated and motivated. I had an assistantship while there and was able to work on special projects for the MBA office including re-establishing the student government organization and setting up the Net Impact group.

Could you give a brief explanation of your current line of work, and what has led you to it?

I co-founded Innovate Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. (INNT) a Nasdaq listed biotech company in 2012 that is focused on autoimmune and inflammatory diseases for unmet need indications such as celiac disease and NASH. As the executive vice president of corporate affairs I run the company’s business operations and also work on intellectual property, licensing and technology scouting.

What do you believe is your most interesting accomplishment since graduation?

Taking my company public in early 2018.

What are your goals and plans for the future?

Start another company
