NC State’s B Corp Clinic Among Financial Times Best Teaching Practices

Financial Times recently released a list of business schools from around that globe that best exemplify sustainability, ethics and social purpose. The publication created a crowdsourcing experiment for universities to share examples of societal impact, faculty research, teaching, student projects and their methods of operation.

The Poole College of Management’s B Corp Clinic was mentioned under the student projects list as it helps connect students to local and global for-profit businesses to help improve their environmental and societal impact. It provides a unique hands-on consulting experience for future business leaders to learn about sustainable business models.

“We believe giving students experience working in virtual teams, with peers from different disciplines and academic institutions on sustainability strategy, will prepare them to be leaders in transforming the way business operates so that it benefits people, the planet and the bottom line,” said Jessica Thomas, director of the Business Sustainability Collaborative and lecturer.

Over 280 students have participated in the Clinic since it was launched in 2015. These students represent 17 different disciplines that have participated across NC State, Duke University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Elon University, Wake Technical Community College, NC Central University, North Carolina A&T University and Appalachian State University. Students have contributed 7,000 hours of work and made more than 2,200 points of progress in the B Impact Assessment, the certification platform for B Corps.

Now the B Corp Clinic is being replicated across many academic institutions in the United States due to its innovative work. See more of the Financial Times best practices from around the globe.
