Meet a Jenkins MBA: The Weekly Spotlight

Lauren McGuire

Name: Lauren McGuire, 2nd Year Full-Time MBA Student
Employer & Job Title: Graduate Assistant, Poole College of Management
Hometown: White Plains, NY
Previous Degrees & Institutions: B.S. in Mathematical Decision Sciences, UNC-Chapel Hill

Q: What’s the most fun or enlightening experience you’ve had in the MBA program so far?
A: The Global Trendspotting class which was a week in London with Dr. Colbey Reid. It was a great way to experience the city and see things that you don’t usually get to see as a tourist. If you have a chance, I would definitely recommend taking one of the international courses.

Q: If you had five minutes to teach someone something new, what would you teach?
A: I would teach someone how to throw a Frisbee in five minutes. Disc golf is becoming a really popular activity and it’s a relaxing way to get outdoors and hang with friends. The best part might be that it is considered exercise!

Q: What’s your favorite comfort food, and when do you like to make & enjoy it?
A: Having family from New Orleans, my mom would make a nice pot of gumbo for the holidays (usually Thanksgiving). While I am not a good enough cook to make it myself, I always like to come home in November and be able to sit at the table and enjoy a few bowls with family.

Q: What’s your favorite song to cheer you up get you pumped up, or ready to face the day?
A: This is so difficult for me to pick, but the first song that came to mind was “Good Day” by Nappy Roots. I can’t listen to the song without cracking a little smile and dancing.

Q: What’s your dream job/career goal? How is the Jenkins MBA helping you get there?
A: One day, I would love to work towards improving business processes for an international firm so that I could have the opportunity to live and work abroad. My MBA is helping me learn how to look at the business operations and identify ways to improve internal processes, while also providing me with a larger picture of how all of the departments work together to achieve business objectives.
