Meet a Jenkins MBA:  The Weekly Spotlight

Brian Kearns Headshot

NAME:  Brian Kearns
EMPLOYER & JOB TITLE: 1st Year Full-Time MBA Student; working with NCSU Center for Innovation Management Studies
HOMETOWN: Cary, N.C.
PREVIOUS: B.S. Business Administration from William Peace University (formerly Peace College)

Q: Tell us something about you that we might be surprised to find out.
A: While on a cruise vacation in the Bahamas, I could not sleep one night and went on a stroll along the deck of my cruise liner. It was almost 2 a.m. and I noticed someone drowning in one of the massive oversized pools. I dove in and pulled him to safety. I very well may have saved someone’s life that night.

Q: If you could have any superpower you wanted, which one would it be?
A: Telekinesis. I’d love to read people’s minds and extract their information adding it to mine own. Think what you could learn from Warren Buffett. Or, just a floating glass of wine as a cool party trick.

Q: What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had?
A: I was a car salesman for a time. I met some truly “unique” individuals, and learned a lot about life. Example: Don’t judge a book by its cover. One of my most profitable sales was from a very “disheveled” toothless man … who happened to have $60K in a brown paper bag. I thought it was half a sandwich!

Q: What’s the most fun and enlightening experience you’ve had in the MBA program so far?
A: The first major case study for MBA 560 Marketing Management and Strategy. Going that in-depth through our discussion was really enlightening. We all had very different viewpoints on how the Marketing and FDA should be handled for the Pepcid AC case study.

Q: What’s your dream job / career goal? How is the MBA helping you get there?
A: CEO of a very profitable startup company. I would love to helm a thriving and young business. I am rounding out the edges and increasing my skill set with each and every class.
