Meet a Jenkins MBA:  The Weekly Spotlight

Lindsey

NAME:  Lindsey Caraballo
EMPLOYER & JOB TITLE: Wells Fargo, Mediations Underwriter 1
HOMETOWN: Clayton, NC
PREVIOUS: Bachelor of Science, Finance from University of North Carolina at Greensboro

Q: What’s the most fun and enlightening experience you’ve had in the MBA program so far?
A: I would say the 360 Assessment completed as part of a 1-hour Saturday class with John Hutchings was the most beneficial and enlightening experience of my MBA career so far. I would like to think that I am a very self-aware person, but hearing the thoughts and opinions of my colleagues and managers solidified the areas of improvement I already knew existed. But surprisingly, I was overwhelmed by the admiration and respect that they expressed for me. It reassured me that I am on the right track, both personally and professionally.

Q: If you had 5 minutes to teach someone something new, what would you teach?
A: I am the queen of decorating by using Command strips and hooks rather than drilling holes into the wall. So, given 5 minutes, I could teach anyone how to decorate a whole room, including window treatments, using only Command strips and hooks.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
A: My favorite quote is, in an adapted version of Thoreau’s actual words, is “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.”  So many times I find that people are hesitant to go after the things we desire for a variety of reasons; fear, complacency, or lack of direction. One of my longtime mentors urged me to physically sit down and determine what I really want and what would truly make me happy. I do that process often and it has guided me through many hard times in my personal and professional life.

Q: What’s your dream job / career goal?  How is the MBA helping you get there?
A: My dream job would be to earn an income by simply lounging on a tropical island while enjoying drinks that come with little pink umbrellas. But something tells me not only is this not possible, but I would probably get bored. So my current career goal is to move into upper level management within the Consumer Lending department at Wells Fargo. With all of my industry experience being earned with my current employer, I decided to earn an MBA to gain a better sense of how business make strategic decisions and how to contribute more to the big picture and strategic goals of the company, rather than the day-to-day functions I am currently doing. I would love to be in a position where I can positively impact the policies and procedures used in those day-to-day duties to make the unit as a whole more effective.
