What is the NC State Grand Business Challenge?

Focusing on IT security, the NC State Grand Business Challenge introduces MBA students to the pharmaceutical industry and presents an opportunity to gain exposure and insight into real-world business challenges, all while evaluating how they react under pressure.

Who can participate?

The NC State Grand Business Challenge is an invitation-only competition consisting of full-time MBA students from business schools throughout the world.

When will the Grand Business Challenge be held?

The NC State Grand Business Challenge will be held at North Carolina State University on November 3rd-5th, 2016.

Where will the Grand Business Challenge be held?

The NC State Grand Business Challenge will be held at North Carolina State University Park Alumni Center and Hunt Library on Centennial Campus.

Is there a fee to enter the Challenge?

There are no registration or application fees. Merck has generously agreed to cover the cost of traveling, lodging, and meals associated with the Grand Business Challenge.

How many members should each team have?

Each team is required to have four participants. In the event a team member is unable to participate, the team must register an alternate full-time MBA student via email to case-competition_jenkinsmba@ncsu.edu.

What is the dress code?

During the presentations, business professional attire is required. Business casual attire is recommended during non-presentation activities.

Can more than one team from a single school compete?

No, only one four-member team per school may compete.

Will NC State make hotel arrangements for teams?

We will provide accommodations at Wolf Ridge Apartments, which is on Centennial Campus. One coed suite will be assigned to Each school.  Each suite will have 4 individual bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Click here for the suite layout. If alternative accommodation is required, please specify in the team registration.

What transportation resources are available at NC State University?

Shuttles will be provided for students on Thursday, November 3rd to transport students to/from the Park Alumni Center. Students can also use the NC State Wolfline.

Will transportation be provided from the airport to NC State University?

No, ground transportation is not provided to and from the airport. Please make arrangements.

Uber, Lyft and taxis are recommended options, with instructions provided in the links.

Where can I eat during my stay?

There will be several group meals during the competition. In addition, teams will receive AMEX gift cards upon check-in, allowing them the flexibility to eat at various restaurants and food courts on campus. Wolf Ridge has a food court On the Oval located in Tower Hall.

What late night dining options are available near campus?

Mission Valley Restaurants

The AMEX gift card that you receive upon arrival can be used at these restaurants and many more. Most restaurants near campus can also deliver food right to your apartment.

Which convenience stores are close to campus?

CVS Pharmacy and Kerr Drug can be accessed via the NC State Wolfline.

Where are the ATMs on campus?

Wachovia and BB&T ATMs are located in the Talley Student Center. For more banking options please see link.
