Meet a Jenkins MBA: The Weekly Spotlight

Corrina Knight photo

Name: Corrina Knight, Professional Evening MBA
Employer & Job Title: Sr. Manager – Workplace Operations, Red Hat
Hometown: Springfield, MO
Previous Degrees & Institutions: NC State University, B.S. in Middle Grades Education

Q: Tell us something we might be surprised to find out.
A: I’ve been struck by lightning…that always raises an eyebrow or two.

Q: What’s the most fun or enlightening experience you’ve had in the MBA program so far?
A: I’ve loved connecting with my classmates. I’ve had the opportunity to work and learn with some really smart and passionate people. It’s one of the reasons I decided to pursue my MBA, so I’m glad it’s delivering.

Q: If you had five minutes to teach someone something new, what would you teach?
A: How to give a “good” interview question response. I think it’s so important for a candidate to be able to describe the actions they took to execute something, or describe their specific contributions to a project. Sorry, but as a hiring manager, I cringe when I hear, “I did what I had to do to get the job done.”

Q: What’s the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
A: There are two ways to live, out of fear and out of love. I try to operate out of the second one, being mindful when the first tries to creep in.

Q: What’s your dream job or career goal? How is the Jenkins MBA program helping you get there?
A: Recently, I was listening to a TED Radio Hour on NPR called “Disruptive Leadership.” One of the presenters, Sanjit “Bunker” Roy, teaches women from remote villages around the world to be engineers and change agents for their villages – talk about a dream job! I would love to empower women leaders with knowledge and skills to change the world. How is the Jenkins MBA going to help me get there? I’m not sure, but if it does, it will probably be through a network or connection made while going through the program.
