Graduation Deadline Application is March 15th!!!
All students planning to graduate in the spring, you have some steps you need to take. Your deadline for completing the first two steps is Tuesday, March 15th. All the steps to graduate are detailed on the NCSU MBA website, (under Current Students/Graduation) along with a comprehensive list of FAQs. Please visit this site with questions; if you have others that can’t be answered here, feel free to contact Sarah Pickel. And save the date for our graduation reception the evening of Thursday, May 5th at the Carol Johnson Poole Clubhouse on Centennial Campus!

Inside the Mind of an Executive Search Recruiter: Panel Discussion, Q&A, and Reception – March 18th, 6 – 8 pm
For a seasoned professional, Executive Search can advance your career and give you access to thousands of vacant positions in the hidden job market. But how do you connect with executive search consultants? How does the process work? Join the CMC for a panel discussion, Q&A, and networking featuring professionals from executive search firms who will discuss their work and share best practices of working with executive search. Panelists include Ingrid Sanchez, CEO, iSearchFinance.com; Shawn Warren, Executive Recruiter, Ajilon Supply Chain and Logistics; and Cristen Vaughn, Accounting and Finance Consulting Services Director, Vaco Raleigh, LLC. This event will be held 3/18 from 6 – 8 pm in 1130 Nelson Hall, and is open to Jenkins Professional Evening and Professional Online MBAs and second-year full-time MBAs. Dress is business casual.

NC State vs. Boston College Basketball Game: March 2nd
The last NC State home basketball game is next Wednesday, March 2nd against Boston College. As many of you know, Chase Cannnon, a first year MBA student, is on the basketball team and this will be his last home game. Please come out and support him if you can! The ticket request window is open now and runs through today.
Professional Clothing Needed for NCSU Low-Income Students
The Career Development Center, Student Support Services, and Pack Promise program are partnering to provide professional interview clothing to NCSU low-income students. Please consider donating new or gently used clothing appropriate for interviews and/or the work setting. Diverse sizes, styles, and colors are needed, including shoes, jewelry, scarves, belts, and hand bags. In great need of sizes 0 -2 (petite clothing), sizes 12+, size 5 – 11 shoes, and all men’s clothing, shoes, and belts. You may drop items off at the NCSU Career Development Center Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm or to Park Shops 204 Monday – Friday 9 am – 5 pm. If you need donations picked up, please contact Sarah at skgould@ncsu.edu or 513-7756. Donations are due by Friday, February 26th at 5 pm.
Women in Leadership & Science: New Student Organization at NC State
Women in Leadership and Science (WILS) is a new graduate student organization dedicated to advancing women into leadership roles in the industry through building professional networks. They are hosting an informal lunch event on March 14th with Kristen Eads, Self-Service Delivery Specialist at GlaxoSmithKline, at the Frontier in RTP. Campus Diversity Dialogue – White People, A Documentary: February 29th
A new documentary from MTV titled “White People” asks white millennials to take a closer look at how they view race. All students, faculty, and staff are invited to join the viewing of this short film and interactive discussion to share your experiences, opinions, and build skills for effective dialogue on issues of race. This event will be held from 3 – 5 p.m. in Campus Cinema, Witherspoon Student Center.

Women’s Leadership Conference 2016: March 11th
Join hundreds of professional women at this half-day educational and networking conference which features a keynote from Claire Shipman. Shipman is a regular contributor on Good Morning America and other national broadcasts for ABC News. She is the co-author of two New York Times bestsellers: “The Confidence Code: The Art and Science of Self-Assurance – and What Women Need to Know” and “Womenomics: Work Less, Achieve More, Live Better.” The event will also offer a panel discussion and breakout sessions further exploring executive presence. The conference includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and book-signing. RSVP here by March 4th in order to attend.
Raleigh Chamber’s YPN Event: Professional Development through Volunteerism: March 24th – ONE TICKET LEFT
In today’s world, young professionals are so busy with their daily lives that it can be difficult to find time to volunteer and serve the community. Following a TED-style format, three dynamic speakers will:
- Help you determine what volunteer and service opportunities best suit your career, personality, and interests
- Explore the resources available to young professionals who want to volunteer or serve on boards
- Share how community service and volunteerism have led to success in their own careers.
Speakers include Will Barfield, Frankel Staffing Partners; Allison Warren-Barbour, United Way of the Greater Triangle; and Cailin Williams, Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Q: Tell us something we might be surprised to find out.
A: I’ve been to over 50 countries for either work or adventure. I love to travel! I had to get a new passport because all the pages were full.
Q: What’s the most fun or enlightening experience you’ve had in the MBA program so far?
A: Most fun I’ve had so far was actually during a Saturday elective – I know, right? A Saturday class; I must be out of my mind. All I can say is, take Dr. David Henard’s negotiating class. There are so many practical applications, such as negotiating your salary after you complete your MBA, or even just closing on a house or buying a new car!
Q: If you had five minutes to teach someone something new, what would you teach?
A: There is a very distinct way to eat chicken wings! When my family moved to Buffalo, NY, I was relentlessly made fun of for eating chicken wings “the wrong way.” Unknowingly at the time, there is a way to wiggle the smaller bone out of the wing, followed by the larger bone. This leaves you with the entire wing to devour, not leaving any meat on the bone.
Q: What’s the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
A: Every action has a reaction; think about that before you cannonball into the pool, trying to make a splash!
Q: What’s your dream job or career goal? How is the Jenkins MBA program helping you get there?
A: My dream job has always been to become a general manager for a Major League Baseball team. Obtaining the Jenkins MBA will definitely boost my credentials when applying for entry-level programs and working my way up within a franchise.
