Pitching In: Matthew Davis (’12 MBA)

Note: The following story is reprinted with permission from the summer 2018 edition of NC State, the NC State Alumni Association magazine.

His Day Job

Matthew Davis is a co-founder and the chief marketing officer of Reveal Mobile, a Raleigh-based company that helps customers connect online with audiences near their physical locations. He lives in Chapel Hill, N.C., with his wife and three children—including twins who were born while he was getting his MBA degree at NC State.

Alumni Association Connection

He also was one of the original members of the NC State Alumni Entrepreneurs group, and served as president for two years.

Getting involved

Davis got involved in entrepreneurship while he was in graduate school. After he got his degree from the Poole College of Management, the Alumni Association asked him about helping put together a group for entrepreneurs. The group formed in 2014.

Saying Yes

Davis says it’s important to volunteer. “I’ve been on the receiving end of a lot of help from a lot of people. It’s a good way to pay it back.”

The Main Event

The entrepreneurs group holds from six to 10 events every year. Davis’ favorite is the Alumni Entrepreneur Showcase, held in May at the Park Alumni Center. “You get to have all these companies come together and see what they’re building. Some have been around a long time and raised millions of dollars and some are just starting up. It’s not just software, there are potato chip companies and dog treat companies to very sophisticated biotech companies.’’

A Diverse Bunch

“It’s a misconception that [entrepreneurs] are all in their 20s. We have first-time entrepreneurs in their 20s, and also in their 30s, 40s and 50s.” What do they have in common? “They’re all excited to be doing something bigger than themselves.”
