Master of Industrial Engineering
Acquire the knowledge needed for industrial engineering and management skills within a variety of specific concentrations. This dual degree program combines the technical abilities of industrial engineering with innovative business management.
Introduction
Students graduating from the dual MIE and MBA program will receive both the Master of Industrial Engineering degree and the Master of Business Administration degree. During the first year, students will focus primarily on completing the core MBA course sequence, and during the second year, they will concentrate on completing the course requirements for the MIE degree. To satisfy dual-degree requirements for the MBA program, students would be required to complete an MBA concentration. Depending on the chosen concentration, the program is structured so that students can complete both degrees in four or five semesters, starting in the fall semester.
Applying to the MBA and MIE Dual Degree Program
Students will be admitted to the program using this two-step process:
The Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) department will first consider each applicant’s qualifications for pursuing the MIE degree, and then those applicants accepted for MIE studies will be forwarded to the business school for consideration for the MBA program. Students are still required to apply to each program separately.
Students will have access to the same career and program resources as all other MBA and MIE students.
Application Requirements
- Unless otherwise noted, applicants should abide by all of the specific requirements for each degree.
- MIE applicants must take the GRE for admission to the program and either the GRE or GMAT for the MBA program.
- All students are expected to pursue their degrees full-time and will pay the same tuition rate as MBA students.
MBA Requirements
All dual degree students will work with an MBA Advisor to develop a plan that meets their MBA requirements.
Two pathways to completion are offered based on your chosen concentration.
Supply Chain Management Concentration
At a minimum, dual-degree MBA/MIE students must complete 35 credit hours for the MBA program. For students pursuing the Supply Chain Concentration, of those hours, 27 must be unique to the MBA Program and can not be used towards any other degree, while students can share the remaining 9 hours with the MIE requirements.
- Core Classes: 21 Hours (19 if ST 516 already taken)
- Students will take the MBA core classes in their first year according to the typical Full-Time MBA Schedule.
- Should take ST 516 (shared hours) in place of MBA 506 and MBA 507
- Concentration Classes: 12 Hours
- MBA 549
- 1 other Supply Chain Class (such as MBA 542, MBA 543, MBA 545, MBA 553)
- 2 more Supply Chain classes or approved ISE classes (such as ISE 553, ISE 723, ISE 711, ISE 754)
- MBA Electives: 2 hours
- Practicum
- MBA 549 counts toward this requirement
- Analytics/Quantitative Course
- Can count toward hours for concentration or elective (such as MBA 542, MBA 543, MBA 545, MBA 553)
Other Concentrations
At a minimum, dual-degree MBA/Industrial Engineering students must complete 45 credit hours for the MBA program. For students pursuing non-supply chain concentrations, of those hours, 30 must be unique to the MBA Program and can not be used towards any other degree, while the remaining 3 hours can be shared with the MIE requirements.
