Study Master of microbial biotechnology and management (MMB) through our balanced approach, which will allow you to concentrate on either biosciences management or entrepreneurship.
Introduction
The biotechnology industry is ever-changing, increasing the demand for leaders who understand the technical side of science while developing critical business skills in finance, problem-solving, and decision making. Through the MMB/MBA degree program, our students gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to pursue a career in entrepreneurship or lead within an organization.
Master of Microbial Biotechnology students have the option of entering NC State University’s Poole College of Management’s MBA program for one year after completing the program.
The summer after completing the MMB program, students will complete an internship and then will subsequently start MBA classes in the fall, after completing the required MBA orientation in August.
Applying to the MMB/MBA Dual Program
Interested MMB students can take the GMAT or use their GRE scores (taken within the last five years of applying to the MBA program) to apply to the MBA Program. Students should apply during the summer or fall of their second year in the MMB program.
Students may pursue a concentration in either Biosciences Management or Entrepreneurship. The MBA concentration that the MMB student is interested in will dictate which MBA electives the student will take while in the MMB program.

MBA Requirements
All dual degree students will work with an MBA Advisor on developing a plan to meet their MBA requirements.
At a minimum, dual-degree MBA/MMB students must complete all MBA degree requirements to include:
Core Classes: 22 Hours
Students will take the MBA core classes in their first year according to the typical Full-Time MBA Schedule.
Concentration Classes: 12 Hours
MBA Electives: as needed and confirmed with your advisor
Practicum
Can count toward hours for concentration
Analytics/Quantitative Course
Can count toward hours for concentration or elective
