Teaching and Student Engagement

I teach courses in leadership, negotiation, and influencing others, aiming to provide students with practical skills grounded in robust theory. I believe in fostering an understanding of complex human interactions within organizations. My goal is to empower future leaders to make informed decisions, manage conflict effectively, and inspire trust, ultimately contributing to stronger, more ethical and innovative organizations.

Industry and Academic Contributions

My research primarily explores trust, employee decision-making, and organizational effectiveness. My integrative theory of trust, published in the Academy of Management Review, is highly cited and has been applied to critical societal issues such as police-public trust,  trust in government, and trust in AI.

My work on diversity and innovation, which highlights how diversity acts as a catalyst for innovative work environments, was notably recognized by the Financial Times for its significant social impact.

I frequently speak to various business, government, legal, and civic groups on trust and leadership, and I’ve consulted for numerous for-profit and non-profit organizations across diverse industries, including finance, research, construction, and steel.

Why Poole College?

My time at Poole College has allowed me to continue my deep exploration into organizational trust and leadership. I value the college’s commitment to impactful research, as evidenced by my grants for interdisciplinary trust studies. I particularly appreciate the opportunity to contribute to key programs like the Jenkins MBA Raleigh Residency, where I help students develop crucial leadership skills for their careers.
